Pesach 5767

Who can sleep now?

It was in the year 2448 on the eve of the 14th of Nisan, that is 3319 years ago that Jews put on their walking shoes and with their staff in their hands ate the Korban Pesach in a hurry, as the Egyptian first-borns were dying all over the Egyptian empire. And the next day, on the 15th of Nisan, the rabbis tell us that it was a Thursday, they walked out of Egypt as a free nation.

My dear brothers and sisters, this is not a fairy tale or a cute story, this stuff really happened, and if you open your hearts and minds, you will come to appreciate the enormity of this historical event and its implications for you as an individual and as a member of the Jewish people.

And tonight at the Seder when you tell your children the story, they will ask you "Daddy were you there in Egypt?" And you better have a good answer; "No I wasn't there, but when I was a little kid just like you, my father told me the same story". And they will ask you "Oh daddy, then the grandfather was there?" and you will tell them "No Grandfather was not there, but when he was a little kid his father told him the same story. My son rest assured that your great great ... grandfather was in Egypt and walked out as a free man on that Thursday of the 15th of Nisan".
